I am an immigrant from the Democratic Republic of Congo. I bought a 10-acre farm in Democratic Republic of Congo in 2012 where I still have family who produce and sell vegetables. I moved to the US in 2014 under a special immigration program and I am now a US citizen. I was a nurse in Africa. I have a college diploma in nursing. In the US I have a certificate in DSP (Direct Support Professional). This enables me to assist people with disabilities. I am currently farming on Cultivating Community land in Falmouth.
My goal is to acquire my own land by purchase or lease where I can grow crops as stated below. Recent African immigrants miss the foods they were used to in Africa. There is a ready market for anyone who can grow or import those native African foods. There are at least 20,000 immigrants in this area who constitute my market. Crops I plan to grow here: Sorrell Spinach Amaranth Onion Lemon Grass Green eggplant Endive Potato leaves Soybeans Sweet Potato I plan to sell these crops to recent immigrants from Africa in the central Maine region. I already have contacts with stores in this area. I have been importing foods from Africa to sell to them.
