Past and Present Farming Experience:

Previously worked and apprenticed with Swallowtail Farm for 8ish years. Spent a seasons on a farming Costa Rica. Right now I am growing medicinal & culinary herbs, cut flowers, and very small scale soy. We process our herbs into products in our apothecary and are in the final steps of commercial kitchen licensing for soy products. We sell our products at the Portland Farmers Market year round on Saturdays and Wednesdays through the summer. We keep chickens for eggs, bees, and dabble in mushrooms.

Business Plan and/or future farming vision and goals:

Our vision is to expand our current farming enterprises, while adding to them. We would like to grow enough herbs for bulk sales, offer cut flowers all growing season, not just as space allows, grow the majority of our soy beans that we need to make our soy food products, grow more of the apothecary ingredients and to sell the surplus at market and the farm stand. Examples being turmeric, ginger, horseradish, lavender, etc. We would expand our current potted plants and seedlings program. Both Eban and I have a background in Luxury Venue management. We envision offering the property a handful of weekends a year for events and/or as a farm stay/vacation rental periodically. Eban is nearing finishing his Master's degree in Social Work. Eventually we see part of the farm functioning as a healing center, with herbalism, therapy, and agriculture being the central guiding points. Over the last 3 years we have seen 100% growth each year and are on track to see that with this year as well. We aim to meet this ambitious goal next year as well with the addition of soy products, eventually a farmstand, and a few wholesale or restaurant accounts. We hope to keep our processes' simple with as much homemade and handmade as possible. We see this farm as place for our family to grow and hopefully a place for community to grow as well.
