Past and Present Farming Experience:

We are a dynamic duo who both grew up in agricultural settings. Colby grew up working on a diversified dairy, beef, and hog operation in Central Maine. From milking the farm's 65 head of mixed-breed dairy cows(mainly holsteins and jerseys), rearing replacement heifers, bottling milk, making butter, working in the slaughterhouse, and learning about herd reproduction through AI and selective breeding practices, to dehorning, castrating, and cutting piglets needle teeth he is well versed in animal husbandry. He also spent a season on an organic dairy & fiber operation. Trevor grew up on a hobby farm in central New Hampshire. He is familiar with raising chickens, rabbits, and dairy goats, and keeping a sizable vegetable garden. In our time together we have raised laying hens, peking ducks, and the seasonal vegetable garden. We are both professional bakers and Colby has a strong passion for canning and food preservation both in practice and in the history of the practice.

Business Plan and/or future farming vision and goals:

Our business plan states that our mission is to provide our family, friends, neighbors, and community with fresh, all-natural, ethically raised, and mindfully grown eggs, poultry, vegetables, fiber, baked goods, and in time many other value-added products (milk, butter, cheese, meat, sausage, etc. licensure permitting). We will also offer space for alternative healing practices and classes such as massage therapy, yoga, herbal healing, and meditation. Our goal is to work with heritage breeding stock, heirloom seeds, and existing agricultural infrastructure. We will make every reasonable effort to be mindful and responsible stewards of the animals, crops, and lands that we farm in order to better realize our dream of feeding and healing our community and helping to foster a more mindful way of living for all. We hope to establish first-year projects that will provide immediate returns such as laying hens/broilers, meat rabbits, dual-purpose sheep, market hogs, and a diversified vegetable garden all of which will be sold from an on-the-farm store & CSA. We will also incorporate our culinary knowledge to bring value-added products to the farm such as baked goods, jams, jellies, and other canned products. In the long term, we hope to establish or work with an established fruit orchard to expand the produce and value-added products to the farm's CSA & farm store. Our goal is that the farm will be able to financially support itself and Colby full-time within the first two years and both of us completely within the first 5 years.
