Past and Present Farming Experience:

My wife and I have both long dreamed of having our own small farm. I grew up helping my father manage his small herd of 20+/- beef cows in Washington County. My wife grew up working on onion farms in Orange County New York and also participated in a MOFGA internship working on a goat dairy farm when she was a young adult.

Business Plan and/or future farming vision and goals:

Our dream is to have a small farm that we produce enough to be self-sustaining and have a small profit. My wife has a career outside of farming and I would be working seasonally as well as running the farm year round. Our intention is to mostly breed pigs to sell piglets and to raise to slaughter size for wholesale meat. We also intend to raise chickens for both meat and eggs. I grew up with horses and am planning on taking classes on how to work land with draft breeds so that when we have our property I can till the land for gardening with a horse as well as twitch out logs for firewood in the winter. Ideally, there would be enough pasture and hayfields on the property that we would be able to produce our own hay for each year. Our goal is to be able to raise enough animals, grow extra produce and sell firewood to have a small profit of $10-$20,000 a year from the farm.
