Jakob Barton, 15-40 acres, vegetables +

I’m currently working on helping my friend start a vegetable farm in Hollis, ME (Folly Farm). Prior to this year, I have worked 5 seasons on vegetable farms including one year managing a farm in Scarborough, ME (Frith Farm).

My dream is to have a diversified farm that is centered around intensive vegetable production of 2-3 acres. In addition, I hope to have 5-10+ acres of pasture and orchard production with some of the areas being devoted to silvopasture. I hope to raise lamb and chickens as my livestock. In addition, I am interested in growing shiitakes on logs in the forest on the side. I am planning on focusing on a CSA model for the veggies as the central income stream and farmers market sales transitioning to on farm retail if possible as the secondary income stream.
