Past and Present Farming Experience:

I have a small cut flower farm on the outskirts of Montpelier, VT called Old Time Flowers. I grow intensively on 1/6th acre of leased land and follow organic, no-till growing practices. This is my fourth year flower farming in Vermont. I offer fresh flowers through my seasonal CSA, DIY weddings, and special orders. I make dried flower value added products (wreaths, bouquets, decorations) and sell at holiday markets and to local businesses. In the past I've worked on organic veggie farms across the country as an apprentice (through MOFGA), employee, and crew leader. I ran my own small market garden with mixed veggies and flowers in westnern North Carolina for a season. I've also worked at High Mowing Seeds in VT and at the Johnny's Seeds research farm in central ME.

Business Plan and/or future farming vision and goals:

I'm looking to buy a small affordable piece of land in Maine to relocate my flower farm and build my homestead in an area with a strong sense of community, like midcoast. Also open to long-term lease. **Please note: I am looking for at least a 1/4 acre plot to grow flowers on that I can enclose in deer fence. Growing in small, broken up spaces (like between rows of trees in an orchard or random spaces scattered about) will not work for me.** I plan to sell fresh flowers locally—small CSA, DIY weddings, special orders, perhaps joining a collective— and continue developing my dried flower business, selling value added products at holiday markets and online. I plan to travel and teach dried flower craft workshops around the region in the wintertime. I’m also getting into small-scale cut flower seed production and want to incorporate that more into my business.
