Past and Present Farming Experience:

I grew up on a small dairy farm on Notch Road in Skowhegan, Maine, where farming was a part of everyday life. From a young age, I was involved in the many responsibilities that came with running a small family farm. We milked cows, made and put up hay, grew corn and other crops, and cared for geese and other small animals. Growing up on the farm gave me firsthand experience with the hard work, dedication, and seasonal demands of agriculture. I learned the importance of caring for animals, maintaining the land, working with the weather and seasons, and taking pride in producing what we could from the farm. These experiences gave me a strong foundation in farming and a lasting appreciation for agriculture and rural life. My wife also grew up with an appreciation for farm life. Her grandfather had a small farm in Canaan, Maine, and she spent time around the farm as a child. Although her experience was not as extensive as mine, being around her grandfather's farm gave her an early connection to agriculture and an understanding of the lifestyle and work involved. Together, we share a strong family connection to farming and a genuine appreciation for the land, animals, and hard work that are part of agricultural life. We hope to build on these experiences as we pursue our own farming goals.

Business Plan and/or future farming vision and goals:

Our vision for the future is to build a small, productive, and sustainable farm that allows us to reconnect with the agricultural traditions we grew up around while creating something of our own. Farming has always been familiar to us through our family backgrounds, and we would like to carry that connection forward for the next generation. Our goal is to develop a farm that is well cared for, productive, and financially sustainable over time. We want to make responsible use of the land, learn and improve our farming practices as we grow, and focus on producing quality crops and/or raising healthy animals. We understand that building a successful farm takes time, hard work, planning, and a willingness to adapt. We hope to start at a manageable scale and gradually expand as our knowledge, experience, and resources allow. We want to use sustainable and practical farming methods, take good care of the soil and animals, and make decisions that will keep the farm productive for years to come. Ultimately, our goal is not simply to operate a farm as a business, but to create a meaningful way of life centered around the land, hard work, self-sufficiency, and family. We hope to build something that reflects the values we learned growing up around farms and provides a lasting agricultural legacy for our family and community.
