Originally a sheep farm. Cow dairy since at least 1940's; in the same family since then up to 2019. Maine Farmland Trust purchased the farm under their Buy Protect Sell program, and Bowsprit Foundation, non-profit farm conservation with at-risk youth education focus, acquired the deed in 2023. The vision is for three or four multi-operator organic/biodynamic farms, with independent farm businesses, plenty of opportunity for collaboration and reciprocation. Youth program participants join farmers for real-life work for two week intensives, one per season. Also promoting traditional practical-skills learning and working with green-wood, wild clay, fiber, and metal. We are currently fundraising/grant-writing for a great Hall comprising a commercial kitchen, dining room, milk processing room, all available for use by resident farmers, in addition to programs. We see this farm as a valuable community resource given its lively history and the current access to the public via the Hills to Sea trail, and a notable protected section of old growth forest.
If you find any of this interesting, please let's have a conversation. We understand the project sounds complicated. But we continue to believe that this land and the potential for long term impactful work in our community will speak to others as it has for those of us already involved.

1820's built original brick farmhouse. Woodstove, combination back-up furnace w/forced air, and Rinai wall unit. All new electrical throughout. Further improvements are planned for 2024. Attached carriage house and garage (likely later vintage), both in need of repair, but usable. House could be temporary living for incoming farm family, until permanent housing becomes available.
Concrete pad in place with hookups to water, electric, and septic field, for permanent 2-beds/1-bath house awaiting construction (could pull on tiny house or trailer as temporary measure, pending approval by farm managers).
Second site available for new construction, anticipate 3 bed/1 bath.
