Backstage Farm began as a kitchen garden in 1992 (it didn’t have a name then) and it eventually produced so much food that we realized that we should offer this bounty to our friends and neighbors. Thus began Backstage Farm - a biodynamic-inspired family farm that believes in holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming as well as to food & nutrition. This is the turning point in the field of agriculture that is not solely based on quantity but on quality and value. With just an acre in production we grow most of the ingredients for our Moxie-brand line of lacto-fermented foods( i.e. sauerkraut, kimchi, hot sauce, etc.) We extend our short growing season by using high and low tunnels and we make ferments throughout the year. We sell fresh produce, value-added food and our ferments to several health food stores, co-ops, restaurants , farmers markets and to ever-growing cadre of our loyal customers. My dream is to pass the homestead to somebody who will be just as passionate about this land that fed our bodies and souls for thirty years as my late husband and I were. I would be willing to pass on all the farm equipment and supplies that could be used on the farm as part of the deal. My small farm is surrounded on three sides by the "Forever Farmland" fields that belong to organic Horsepower Farm. The home is of sound bones, and very comfortable, with modern open design kitchen/dining room. Propane heat as well as woodstove located in the living room and a new water heater. Full house with amenities indoor, along with a bonus outdoor composting toilet and propane hot shower, used for summer apprentices. Cooldbot walk-in located in the two-bay garage, along with a full attic above for possible summer living, or more storage space. There are outbuildings for storage, farm equipment and a chicken coop on the property.
While I am looking to sell, the requirement for a buyer to visit the property and have discussions, would be to show proof of a qualifying lender, or the like. As part of the seller agreement, we will make a signed P&A, but I am not able to move out of the house until next fall at the latest. My goal is to find a farmer who is truly interested in this land for its growing power, and will take care and pride in it as we have for so many years.
