Rote Farm is listed on the Nation Register of Historic Places. It is one of the few remaining original farmsteads on the South Bristol peninsula. The owner lives in the 1760s farmhouse with his family. The tillable acreage (~10 ac) is mostly directly S and SW of the farmhouse, which makes a potential lease somewhat complicated -- the owner values the viewshed and privacy, as well as the health of humans and the local ecology, so any farming operations would need to be consistent with those interests. The farm is mostly woodlot at this time, but the open fields are in good soil profiles. There are wet spots, and the soil is rocky. The property is offered for lease in the hope that a potential farmer would have or develop a farm plan that fits with the various idiosyncrasies of the property. For example, there is currently a lessee using a small amount of space for a flower operation, which operation fits within the parameters outlined above. There is other land available currently, and the flower operation is likely to move to a different site in the medium term. The barn on site (a 62x42 timber frame from c. 1815) would potentially be available for use, but would need some work. The owner would potentially be amenable to allowing temporary housing (eg., a yurt or similar structure) on the property, if consistent with local regulations. In short, the owner welcomes creative proposals that put the land to a beneficial use, so long as that use doesn't unduly infringe on the owner's use and enjoyment of the property.
